Wow.

This Web Escape challenge is turning out to be much harder than I thought. I'm not sure it was clear in the rules I set out for myself, but not only am I supposed to be refraining from pointless searching while at work, I'm not supposed to be doing it at home, either.

Let's talk about defining the word "pointless," shall we? Because suddenly yesterday, I just *had* to "research" sandals at Zappos.com. And since Jason recalculated our taxes and figured out that we're getting a lot more of a return than we thought, I just *had* to research easels and play kitchens, since we'd like to get one (or possibly both) for Eva.

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to outlaw online shopping.

It's unsettling to admit just how...well, unsettling it's been to go without free access to the Internet. Yesterday, I suddenly found myself snacking like a maniac. I felt like a smoker with a nicotine craving, and I didn't like it one bit. Today, being Monday-- errands day, and storytime day-- there are a lot more activities to keep my mind off the computer. I kind of relish the struggle, though, because it was obviously high time. I mean, if you tell yourself you can't get on the computer and then suddenly have to fill the void with handful after handful of salty snacks, an intervention is SORELY overdue.

So it goes. After I log off here, I'll be back on after dinner to check my e-mail one more time, and that'll be it for the day. Naptime stretches before me, just waiting to be filled laundry and dinner prep. Not that I'm not still adept at time-wasting, mind you. I'm just going to spend it reading instead of messing around online.

I shudder to think at what insight I might arrive at were I to engage in a similar challenge. I am not ready to admit that I have a problem.

I have a wooden toy kitchen that you can borrow if you like. I would like to save it for the long term (possible grandkids?) but it isn't seeing a lot of action around here right now.
