Shake shake shake...

This blog is in need of a shake-up-- which is to say, I need to actually post on it. So here's what I'm doing: this weekend, I'm going to start a Couch to 5K program, and I'm going to blog about it.

So I kind of didn't even know I was going to type that, but there it is. I've been considering ways to punch things up around here lately, along with things in my life I'd like to improve, so why not dovetail the need for more regular exercise with the need for lots of posts about self-torture?

I spoke to a runner friend of mine last weekend-- she actually travels for races, so she's a REAL runner-- and she said she'd heard that Couch to 5K is a fab way to start. When I asked her how she began, she confessed to signing up for a Triathalon and then training for it out of sheer terror.

That's one way to do it, I suppose.

I, however, will take the soft and squishy mother's way out. I will tie up my shoes (which are actually very nice running shoes that I bought at the tail end of my days of gainful employment) and do the whole run three minutes, walk two minutes thing until I can run a full-- um, hold on, gotta check a conversion website-- 3.10685596 miles.

I will then become a foot racer, attaching gilded wings to my heels and transporting messages by foot all up and down the Eastern seabord. "Where's Cary Milkweed?" someone will ask, and you'll simply point to the horizon, where my silhouette will be super-imposed over Mt. Olympus and thick-limbed, recumbent Gods and Goddesses. "She's somewhere," you'll say. "somewhere...out there."

DUDE! That is awesome! How did you NOT leave me a lengthy voicemail about this?
It's funny-I'm waiting for Husband to give up the computer so I can get on. While I was running this evening, I was thinking about how I really need to get back in the blogging habit.

I'm SO not a "real" runner! At least, for some reason, I don't feel like one yet. Anyhow! yay! Glad I could be one of the cosmic forces giving you the nudge. And let me know what race you're going to sign up for (seriously, just sign up for one, it's SO motivating) and maybe I can join you!
