Not today.

I won't be running today. It's rainy, we stayed up late last night grilling for friends (on our very first grill!), and my knees? Pain city. They hurt enough that I'm wondering whether I "did" something to them, or whether it's just something I need to push through. It's not a sharp pain or anything, but a constant soreness that I can feel even when I'm sitting still. I've spent a couple of evenings on the couch with ice bags balanced atop them, and there has been liberal use of ibuprofen.

If you're a runner or have ever run, do tell me-- did you experience this? Is it "normal?" Does it stop? I've been told that strength training can help forestall this in the future, but am I supposed to just stop running until I'm pain free or run anyway?

Advice?

I would say muscle soreness is normal, but joint pain is not. If it is hurting, you should go to the doctor. If you have an injury, you could make it much much worse by running on it if you don't know what you are doing (says the girl who had 3 months of PT after running on a sore ankle).

So just my regular old doctor, then, or do I need to try and find some sports medicine fancy-schmancy doctor?

Your regular dr should be able to refer you. G just finished 2 months of pt for his knee.

Rest up!
