Ouch.

So it's 7:00 am, and today I'm actually not just finishing my post-workout shower. I think I've finally caught the cold that's been tiptoeing around the house-- an annoying but gentle variety that Mr. Milkweed got over in three days, and Eva may or may not have (it's hard to tell with the teething)-- so I slept in today.

Yesterday and the day before, however, I was up at 4:45 am, into my lycra/cotton blend, and on the road to a local middle school gym before the sun came up. It was more than a little surreal to have voluntarily gotten out of bed to be run through circuits by a lady with a whistle-- I cheered on my last day of gym in high school, after all-- but mostly, it was just fun. I liked doing thirty seconds of crunches, thirty seconds of "mountain climbers," and thirty seconds of dumbbell raises. It was fun to sprint from the blue line to the wall and back again thirty times. I liked listening to late nineties hip-hop in the plank position. Even better, I broke a sweat, showered, had breakfast, and put in a load of laundry all before Eva woke up!

But oh, my friends...my muscles hurt. Every time I go down the stairs, the tops of my thighs tensing makes me grit my teeth. But that's why they make ibuprofen, and more to the point, that's why I'm doing this bootcamp thing. I'm out of shape. But I'm enjoying the road back, and even considering bumping up from three to four mornings a week. The alternative, of course, is just to go to the gym on the two off days, but the elliptical seems so boring after hearing the groans of my twenty-nine comrades as they, too, attempt to do another pushup.

The timed run, though-- I'll be skipping that day. Running the mile strays a little far away from "fun" and a little too close to "torturous flashback." That'll be another glorious sleep-in day.

Who knows? Maybe I'll stay in bed until 7:30!
