For those who have been following the Milkweed Family Job Search, I had my first high school teaching interview this morning. I was a little puzzled going into it, because although the interview proper began at 7:30, I was told to arrive at 7 for a "writing sample." Come now! Mr. Milkweed (technically Dr. Milkweed, if truth be known) has been teaching composition for years, so this was hardly a worry, but why does the school want it? Could they think that I got through graduate school using Spark's Notes?
In any event, I got there early and sat in the office waiting room listening to my future students talk about who they removed from Facebook and was then asked to create a lesson plan. I wrote a couple of pages and added an appendix and footnotes, and was then grilled about it by an assistant principal who had all the facial range of a resident at Madame Tussaud's and an English teacher who seemed very nice but was clearly not in charge of the interview. We talked about the details of my lesson plan and then was asked my hypothetical course of action for disciplining a student who insisted on wearing his headphones in class. (I swallowed my immediate answers, which involved weapons and tools of the inquisition, and instead dressed the student down, took the IPod away, got his parents involved, and only when all other recourse failed, detentioned the fool.)
I feel pretty good about it, but as the illustrious Donald Rumsfeld has taught us, there are known unknowns (all the other people applying for the job) and there are unknown unknowns (secret agendas on the part of existing staff). They told me they'd let me know in about a month. Watch this space.

Thanks, darlin'. *smooch*
In other quick news, Eva still isn't walking and the pediatrican has scheduled a physical therapy session for her, and she also hasn't pooped for two days. I'm hoping the latter happens before the former, of course, but now I'm all anxious for her to be bipedal. What do you think-- is it alarmist to go the PT route at 15 months, or just precautionary?

I know plenty of kiddos who didn't walk until 18 months, but then again, I suppose it doesn't hurt to be proactive. I have always found evaluation-type stuff to be helpful and intersting. And if you have kid poop questions, I'm your gal! Henry has been going through another round of constipation for the last 2 weeks. (!!!)
And go Mr. Milkweed! As your lovely wife probably told you, Craig has an interview tomorrow and Friday, and as you say, there are many unknowns and unknown unknowns.
If your doctor is suggesting it, I would do it. Actually, I would call up Help Me Grow (the local version of Early Intervention) and ask them for a full evaluation. They will check all the different developmental areas thoroughly and tell you if there is any reason for concern. I loved the eval we did with them for L, even though she didn't end up qualifying for services. Next time I see you (you being ML), remind me to talk to you about this.
Good luck, Mr Milkweed!!!
and just wait until Eva can tell you "I don't poop on the potty at daycare!" The poop problems never seem to go away ;)
What a strange interview, Mr. Milkweed! Sounds like you did well though. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I can't help with the kiddie issues, but it sounds like you're getting some good advice. You are such a good mama!
If you have a concern, getting information is the logical step. And, PT isn't invasive or risky, so what can it hurt?
We're rooting for you, Dr. Milkweed! (without the botched translations of Ole Worm). ;)
