(Second in a series of pre-written posts.)
Last time I had anesthesia it was for Silas' birth. It was a scheduled c-section, and since Eva was born via a scheduled and completely routine c-section I never anticipated needing to be put under. There was a sudden, frightening problem getting the spinal block in, though-- even the attending physician couldn't do it-- and then when they tried an epidural, it only produced a fuzzy feeling in my legs. So a general it was.
Mr. Milkweed was in some random waiting room and I was unconscious when he was born, but it gives me such joy to know that he was born to music that we'd compiled to be played in the OR. Based on the time they put me under and the time of his birth, we figured out that he came into the world during "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead.
