Famine and Pestilence

Famine: I'd like to officially say that I'm getting very tired of this elimination diet. I'm am 100% committed to nursing Silas at least until his first birthday, so if it lasts that long, so be it, but it's getting a little dejecting to eat the same things day in and day out. If I don't go shopping and keep the fridge stocked, I end up hungry. Very hungry. Hungry enough to eat a blackish-brown banana, in fact. I still can't believe I did that.

Pestilence: We had pantry moths, but I got rid of them. The cat had fleas, but a (very expensive) flea medication called Revolution took care of those. Now...we have roaches. Oh, heavenly God, ROACHES, and I seriously want to strip off my skin and stand on the top of forever even just saying that, but there it is. And would you like to know where they are living? You would, you say? You've got your barf bag prepared? Good, because the little fuckers have set up camp inside the LED display in my stove.

That's right, sports fans. It's roach o'clock.

After church yesterday, I went on a cleaning spree so insane that I may have removed the skin off my feet from standing in straight bleach. The kitchen has never been messy-- it's the one room in the house I find easy to keep clean, even with the baby, since NPR is always on in the kitchen and I'll do anything while listening to NPR-- but today it's certifiably sterile. We've had roach baits out for a week, but I can still see the little bastards crawling around in there (oh, sweet God-- *full body shudder*). We sprayed some Raid, which I totally wish we hadn't done because I've had a headache since then, and the University of Kentucky Extension service tells me I just made the roach baits less inviting, but I think we've got a good action plan moving forward, thanks to the same website. Seems that a combination of boric acid and roach baits should provide results comparable to professional extermination in 1-3 weeks. We shall see.

In the mean time, I'm waiting for the third show to drop. Plague cannot be far off, I'm afraid...
