Back on the Horse

Last week, I started working out again for the first time in about a year. (I'm not counting the "working out" I did during pregnancy, as this mainly consisted of walking and extremely gentle yoga. The goal was to stay limber and reduce pain, not get buff.) However, I discovered that though I rely on my favorite podcasts for chores and housecleaning, Ira Glass just won't cut it for a half an hour on the elliptical (all I can manage right now).

I spent much of today's naptime reprieve researching and loading my iPod with workout music. It's not the stuff I usually listen to, but that's not the purpose. I'm pretty psyched about my list thus far, and I welcome further additions! Comment if I'm leaving out some amazingly ass-busting groove.

Thus far, I've got:

Cry Me a River-- Justin Timberlake

Shimmy Shimmy Ya-- Old Dirty Bastard

It Takes Two-- Rob Base & DJ EZ-Rock

Undisclosed Desires-- Muse

Sexyback (Linus Loves Remix)-- Justin Timberlake

Rock Your Body-- Justin Timberlake

If Terri Gross likes you,
you're OK in my book

Smooth Criminal-- Michael Jackson

Who Is It-- Michael Jackson

Jump Around-- House of Pain

I Alone-- Live

Just Dance-- Lady Gaga

Method Man-- Wu-Tang Clan

What Comes Around-- Justin Timberlake

Here I Come-- The Roots

Paper Planes-- M.I.A.

Metallica-- Enter Sandman

Thriller-- Michael Jackson

Billie Jean-- Michael Jackson

Money Honey-- Lady Gaga

Salt n' Pepa-- Push It (has been in every workout mix I've ever made)

The Way You Make Me Feel-- Michael Jackson

Beat It-- Michael Jackson (so he was weird-- I like these songs)

You've got to have Hey Ya by Outkast! "Shake it like a Polaroid picture!"

Feel Good Inc (Gorillaz), Bust a Move (Young MC), maybe some Wil Smith, Kanye, Black Eyed Peas. Oh and Sexy Back by Mr. Timberland. I also like Viva La Vida as a cooldown or warm up.

Shopgirl-- of course! I definitely need Hey Ya. And Shannon, Bust a Move is one of my favorites-- totally forgot about that one! Thanks, ladies.

I have a workout mix too! It's mostly Andrew W. K. and Christian metal. In some ways, Mrs. Milkweed and I are very different people.

Christian metal, eh? Huh.

Muse and Wolfmother. Watch out for the occasional balladesque song by Muse, though. It'll suck the energy right out of you.
