We moved in to our new house across the weekend of April 10th and 11th. Thanks to the sweat equity of friends and co-workers (and the motivation of some of the finest pizza in Carytown), we managed to load and unload everything on Saturday, and get a big start on unpacking that evening and all day on Sunday. Quick notes on the house:
--Our yard is an absolute paradise, and it's hands down our favorite part about living here. It's large and fully privacy-fenced, but what I love most about it is being able to hear the neighbor's chickens and pigeons in their coops next door. I grew up next door to my grandparents' farm, and they had chickens until I was in middle school, and the noises they make are comfort food for my brain.
--Laundry room. UPSTAIRS. Heavenly. (ETA: This is upstairs as in the first floor, or not in the basement. As out bedroom is on the first floor, this is almost as nice as a setup where all the bedrooms are on the second floor and the laundry is up there.)
--One bathroom...um, not so much. I'm chomping at the bit to get a plumber in here to evaluate a very nice spot in the attic for a potential half bath.
--Our side porch has about three inches of drifted pollen on it. Just opening the door causes it to swirl about with an unsettling snow globe effect. I haven't decided how to clean it up, so right now, I'm ignoring it.
--We've been crafty little homeowners and have replaced a dryer hose and poured cement to reinforce the clothesline. I painted Eva's room "Sassy Violet" before we moved in. At some point, I'd like to switch out the yellow in ours for a soft gray.
Anyway, Eva spent move-in weekend with Mr. Milkweed's mother (as his father was here as an indispensable heavy lifter), so that greatly simplified the whole process. Unpacking has stalled, I'm afraid, due in no small part to the fact that it has to be fit around the business of daily life. Turns out the floors wouldn't wait to get disgusting until we were done-- I had to use some valuable unpacking time yesterday to mop. And I'm trying to keep up with our usual weekly playdates and library trips to give Eva some sense of stability / continuity. Her behavior was horrific last week, but is merely mildly off this week, so she seems to be settling in.
Next up: a few freak-outs about the fact that I'm almost finished with the second trimester, and am starting to lumber about with all the grace of a rhinocerous, and have not done thing one to prepare for this incoming manchild. Stay tuned...

When you get around to painting your room, "Nimbus" by Benjamin Moore is the softest, most soothing gray ever!
