I alluded to this song in a recent post (and actually listened to it over and over while writing said post, which led to a certain amount of crying, but don't hold that against Paul Simon.)
I heard it for the very first time a few weeks ago, and I can't stop listening to it. I recognized the central tune as coming from the hymn "O Sacred Head, Sore Wounded," and it turns out both the words and melody have been changed and adapted for centuries.
In this and in every adaptation, the beauty of that core melody can't be overstated. (Neither can the heroicism of Paul Simon' combover in the video below, exceeded only by the glory of the host's combover. Who is that cat, anyway? Because he's groovy.)
