It just hit me a few seconds ago, as I ate a spoonful of peanut butter and settled down to read Mockingjay, that I was able to enjoy such indulgences because both kids were asleep. Why not update the blog?
I wish there was some uber-fast "Shakespeare in Fifteen Minutes" way for me to recap what's been happening lately, but there isn't. Silas Bonham joined our family on July 26th at 11:33 am, weighing 8 lbs, 5 oz. His birth was a c-section that turned into general anesthesia, which was a less than ideal experience for (terrifying, actually, but I'm determined to focus on the positive things about the day). Since then, life has been about juggling nursing, sleeping, spending time with Eva, freaking out about the time spent with Eva since the arrival of her little brother has caused 101 behavioral issues, being hopefully cautious that we're over the worst of that, and attempting to fold laundry.
I've also been adjusting to eliminating dairy, soy, and now eggs from my diet, as tests run on Silas' poop (an unsettling neon green color) have confirmed some sort of allergy or intolerance. It's not all bad, though, as it's helping with postpartum weight loss and has been forcing me to eat mostly healthy whole foods. For lunch I had some rice, homemade baked beans, a little salmon, and broccoli. Not bad.
Today is exactly the sort of pleasingly chilly early fall day that I longed for all ten years that we lived in Ohio. There's just something about the air and quality of sunshine in early fall in Virginia that does not translate to the Buckeye State. Conversely, however, I've been having longing memories of living within walking distance to a vegan bakery, a vegetarian restaurant, and a bike path. We have not been to visit Columbus since we moved away just over a year ago, and I'm itching to get back there.
And so-- life rolls on. I'll check back in the next time the fates conspire to give me two minutes to rub together. With any luck, it will be sooner rather than later.
