...and I know it. Still, it's October now, so perhaps the "posting every other day" promise I made to myself can just fizzle out. I do like updating more frequently, however, so I'm not going to disappear. Just maybe cut myself a little slack.
Things I'm wondering right now:
1) Exactly what sort of outerwear do I need to buy Eva for the winter? A coat? A coat and a snowsuit? A coat and a pair of those insulated pull-on pants-with-suspenders things? A coat and think longjohns for under her clothes? Just a coat, hat, and mittens? A TonTon pelt?
The prices at L.L. Bean, the Children's Place, etc. are giving me heart palpitations. $50 for a really warm winter coat that she'll only wear one year? *grabs chest, staggers*
2) Our neighbors across the alley suddenly have nine jack-o-lanterns on their steps (including a very amusing one carved with the Obama symbol). Great-- very festive. However, one has a candle that looks like it's been lit all night, and shows no signs of guttering. The pumpkin is pretty close to the wall of the house and is turning black. It's perfectly reasonable that I'm about to go blow it out, isn't it? They're all in their early twenties and won't be up until noon, anyway. *leans heavily on walker*

If it were me, I would buy a good warm winter coat, but not much else. You can find a decent coat at a thrift store or maybe even target. Snowsuits are a huge PITA for daily use, but if you really think she is going to be touching snow, pick up a pair of snowpants at a thrift store.
In the car, you can just tuck a blanket over her legs. Also, she probably won't need boots because she doesn't walk yet and won't be a good enough walker to toss her into the snow any time soon.
Get a hat and thumbless mittens and get mitten clips before they sell out. They always sell out fast. If you want to be safe, buy two or three pairs of the same mittens so you can keep replacing the ones that will inevitably get lost. Old navy had good thumbless mittens (lined, nylon shell) last year.
I'm having the same issue with winter wear. And like American Family suggested, I've been checking out the used stores. I got a bunting/one piece thing but it's not a waterproof snow suit (I don't expect 6mo old J to be out in the snow much - granted he'll be the ripe old age of 9mo by the time winter hits). I also got a cover for his car seat - not sure that was necessary. I'm clueless. I know he'll need mittens (I'll be heading to Old Navy to check out those thumbless ones) & I'm already stocking up on hats considering he's wearing them already on our nightly walks.
Do check out the Once Upon a Child stores, I've been to the Sawmill & Frantz road locations and both have lots of winter wear. Good Luck.
Hey, check this out:

Since I can't give advice, I can at least offer some perspective!
You should totally blow the candle out in that circumstance (ie, the circumstance in which it would be hard for them to catch you). :-)
And Leigh, dude, do you need to rub it in? Those people were buying $1 and $2 million dollar apartments. It boggles my mind that there are enough families that make that kind of money that the NYT has no problem finding them to interview. Or feels even the remotest need to mention that they are WAY above folks in the median income bracket.
We can't even afford a tiny little 1-bedroom in a much less fashionable area. Boo.
My bad.
